There is no place in India which appeals more to the imagination of poets and painters, travellers and writers than Udaipur the lovely lake side capital of Mewar. Udaipur, the City of Dawn, looms up like a vision in white and is surrounded by hills, mountains and set on the edge of three lakes.

Pichola Lake

Lake Pichola (Distance: 2.1 KM), situated in Udaipur city in the Indian state of Rajasthan,is an artificial fresh water lake, created in the year 1362 AD, named after the nearby Picholi village.It is one of the several contiguous lakes, and developed over the last few centuries in and around the famous Udaipur city.The lakes around Udaipur were primarily created by building dams to meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of the city and its neighborhood. Two islands, Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir are located within Pichola Lake.

Sajjangarh Palace (Monsoon Palace)

The Monsoon Palace (Distance: 12 KM), also known as the Sajjan Garh Palace. It was built chiefly to watch the monsoon clouds; hence, appropriately, it is popularly known as Monsoon Palace. It is said that the Maharana built it at the top of the hill to get a view of his ancestral home, Chittaurgarh. Previously owned by the Mewar royal family, it is now under the control of the Forest Department of the Government of Rajasthan and has recently been opened to the public. The palace provides a beautiful view of the sunset.

Jagdish Temple

Jagdish Temple (Distance: 1.5 KM) is built in 1651 A.D., by Maharaja Jagat Singh I. the temple is largest and most splendid temple in Udaipur.Lanes taking off from many of the sheharpanah (city wall) converge on the Jagdish Temple.It is a splendid example of either Māha Māru or the Māru-Gurjara architecture,decorated by beautiful and ornate carvings.The temple sanctum has an idol of the deity Lord Jagannath,in local parlance of God Vishnu or God Krishna, carved out of a single black stone, resplendent with four arms, flowers and finery.

City Palace

City Palace Udaipur (Distance: 1.8 KM) Completely white and majestic, the City Palace Udaipur stands on a hill surrounded by crenellated walls. City Palace Udaipur main entrance is through the triple arched gate, the Tripolia, built in 1725. The Suraj Gokhada, the Balcony of the Sun, where the Suryavanshi Maharanas of Mewar, presented themselves in times of trouble to the people to restore their confidence, is another fascinating monument. The Chini Chitrashala is noteworthy for its blue and white ceramics.


Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal

Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal (Distance: 3.4 KM) is a cultural institution based in Udaipur in Rajasthan state in India engaged in studying folk art, culture, songs and festivals of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh and to popularise and propagate folk arts, folk dances and folk literature. It was set up in 1952 by Devilal Samar. The institution has a museum that exhibits collection of folk articles from Rajasthan like rural-dresses, ornaments, puppets, masks, dolls, folk musical instruments, folk deities and paintings.

Saheliyon ki Bari

Sahelion Ki Bari (Distance: 4.5 KM) was laid for a group of forty-eight young women attendants who accompanied a princess to Udaipur as part of her dowry. The gardens have beautiful lotus pools, marble pavilions and elephant- shaped fountains. These fountains are fed by the water of the lake gushing through ducts made for the purpose.Garden of maids was built 1734 by Maharana Sangram Singh for the royal ladies.The garden was designed by the king himself and he presented this garden to his queen.


Fateh Sagar Lake

Fateh Sagar Lake (Distance: 5 KM) is situated in the city of Udaipur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is an artificial lake named after Maharana Fateh Singh of Udaipur and Mewar, constructed north-west of Udaipur, to the north of Lake Pichola in the 1680s.It is one of the four lakes of the Udaipur city; the other three being: the Lake Pichola (within the Udaipur town), Udai Sagar Lake, 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) to the east of Udaipur, and Jaisamand Lake, 52 km (32 mi) south east of Udaipur.

Jag Mandir

Jag Mandir (Distance: 2.5 KM) is a palace built on an island in the Lake Pichola. It is also called the "Lake Garden Palace". The palace is located in Udaipur city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Its construction is credited to three Maharanas of Mewar kingdom. The construction of the palace was started in 1551 by Maharana Amar Singh, continued by Maharana Karan Singh and finally completed by Maharana Jagat Singh I in 1652. The royal family used the palace as a summer resort and pleasure palace for holding parties.
